About: Founded in 1999 in Washington, D.C., Cogent Communications is a top-ranked Tier 1 Internet Service Provider that provides Internet access and data transport over their IP data-only fiber optic network. No matter the size of your business, Cogent has the right Internet solution for you.

Products & Services:

  • Dedicated Internet Access: Cogent provides Internet services that won't slow you down. Their network is dedicated and non-oversubscribed, meaning you will have reliable access to fast Internet access and an abundance of bandwidth.
    • On-Net Services: Cogent provides On-Net services in over 2,125 buildings within North America, Europe, and Asia. Choosing On-Net service from Cogent ensures pure bandwidth and some of the fastest Internet service available over a dedicated IP Network. With SLA (Service Level Agreements) you are guaranteed 100% global network availability, notification of outage within 15 minutes, and 99.9% package delivery, promoting increased productivity and efficiency, leading to your businesses' success. On-Net services include:
      • Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps): The price of this service is comparable to T1 (a more traditional Internet option) but offers about 65 times more bandwidth. With Fast Ethernet On-Net from Cogent, you get guaranteed speeds of 100 Mbps so that you can run your business productively and efficiently.
      • Gigabit Ethernet (200 Mbps to 1,000 Mbps): This service provides all the advantages of Fast Ethernet but is about 10 times faster. This type of Ethernet came into use starting in 1999, and since then has become one of the fastest Ethernet options available. This option is best for businesses needing extremely fast and reliable Fiber Internet.
    • Off-Net Services: For those who are in need of Off-Net service, Cogent can connect customers through a tail circuit to their Tier 1 backbone, all while still guaranteeing the advantages of Cogent's worldwide fiber network. Off-Net services maintain the same SLAs as On-Net services, and provide as many IP addresses as you need at no extra charge. With Off-Net services you also receive 24/7 support and guaranteed installation intervals. Off-Net services include:
      • Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps): For those who are based out of locations that do not currently directly connect to Cogent's fiber optic network, Cogent can still provide your business Internet access via Off-Net Fast Ethernet loops. This is Cogent's most popular product, and for good reason.
      • GigE (200 to 1,000 Mbps): Larger businesses or enterprises can choose GigE over Fast Ethernet as a more suitable option. Cogent's Off-Net GigE provides Gigabit Ethernet or fiber Internet that will reach speeds up to 1,000 Mbps.
      • T1 (1.5 Mpbs): T1 from Cogent is a more traditional Internet service and is likely to meet the needs of a majority of small businesses. This service is unique to Cogent as it ensures the service is strictly dedicated to you, not shared, and is priced comparatively or lesser than that of other Internet Service Providers. With T1 from Cogent, you receive unlimited static IP addresses, 24/7 support, reliable Internet service, and proactive monitoring of your line.
      • T3 (45 Mbps): For bottleneck-free connectivity and speeds that reach 45 Mbps, T3 service is best for you. This service is most attractive to larger businesses and those who are growing or anticipate growing in the near future.
      • OC3 to OC48 (155 Mbps to 2,500 Mbps): This option of service is best for very large businesses. Cogent provides OC services from 155 Mbps (OC3) all the way to 2.5 Gbps (OC48). These services truly display the benefits of Cogent's non-oversubscribed backbone network, and are able to support any and all of the traffic a customer can produce. With this service, you will eliminate down-time and will increase productivity, all while being Off-Net.

Cogent Provides IP transit that runs over their worldwide Tier 1 optical IP network that is IPv6 enabled. Cogent's Autonomous System AS174 is directly connected to over 5,270 Autonomous System networks worldwide and an internetworking capacity of over 58,3000 Gbps.
