How Technology is Changing the Way We Shop
Technology is always changing, and pretty soon we’ll start to see changes in the way we shop. Online shopping has grown in popularity, but now store fronts are looking to cash in on new, innovative ways to use technology to their advantage. Here are a few predicted changes we’ll see in stores:
Interactive, transparent store windows.
Instead of traditional display windows, stores are expected to implement new, interactive screens where their windows once were. Shoppers can view catalogues, sales and upcoming offers by tapping their fingers on the glass at any time regardless of the store’s hours. The screens can also be used in dressing rooms to provide customers with product information. Researchers from MIT developed these screens and created an informational video, available here.
Hologram mannequins and departments.
Holograms are no longer a concept of the future. Mannequins, shelves and racks take up space in stores, so retailers are now considering the benefits of replacing those items with holograms. These can also be used in dressing rooms, so customers can try on clothes without having to undress.
Personalized, Speed Shopping.
To make your shopping experience more efficient and enjoyable, mobile apps will route out a map based on the products you want to buy. It will provide a map of the store and route options that take the least amount of time, and will also provide you with information about inventory and congested areas. Personal pricing may be available as well, and will be based on your brand loyalty and purchase history so you can receive better deal.
