Facebook Introduces New “Buy” Button
Facebook is testing out its new “buy” button to add extra convenience for consumers and companies alike. The button is available on selected ads that show up in Facebook users’ newsfeeds. When clicked on, users are able to make the purchase without having to leave Facebook.
Currently, only a few small and medium –sized businesses are involved, as the button is still being tested out. The company also gives consumers the option of saving their payment information for future purchases. This new feature follows Facebook’s hiring of former PayPal president David Marcus.
One of the main concerns is whether or not people will feel comfortable providing and/or storing their financial information on Facebook. Although Facebook says it won’t share any credit or debit card information with advertisers, the company is infamous for taking advantage of gray areas in disclaimers. The company was recently under fire for manipulating users’ newsfeeds for a study.
The Facebook “buy” button may be a new feature, but the idea of Facebook users making purchases on the social media site is not. As some may remember, Facebook used to have the option of purchasing physical gifts on the site; however that was discontinued last year.
Would you make a purchase directly from your Facebook newsfeed?
