Avaya IP Office R12.0 now available: What you should know about upgrading
Avaya has announced that IP Office Release 12.0 is now available. If you’re an Avaya customer wondering what that means for your business, here’s a rundown of the biggest changes.
R12.0 will replace CentOS Linux 7 with Rocky Linux 9.3 as its backend operating system.
IP Office R12.0 will rely on Rocky Linux because CentOS Linux 7 will reach end of life (EOL) on June 30, 2024, and no longer receive security patches and updates.
Rocky Linux is an open-source OS built to be compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. It’s also enterprise-focused and integrates cloud, hyperscale, and high-performance computing, according to Avaya.
The migration process will involve the same steps as the previous major upgrade from CentOS 6 to CentOS 7. Here are a few key pieces of info about the release of R12.0 and migrating from CentOS 7 to Rocky Linux:
- This applies to all platforms running Linux.
- IP500v2 won’t change operating systems since it doesn’t run Linux.
- Supported Server Edition platforms (physical, virtualized, and cloud virtual machines) remain the same for R12.0.
- The Rocky Linux version Avaya IP Office R12.0 will rely on is a 64-bit OS.
On-site migration assistance recommended
Because this is a major OS update, Avaya recommends on-site assistance instead of remote upgrades.
